The tower of Chinese-built Ruba Cross-sea Bridge was successfully capped in Malaysia on Thursday, according to constructor China Railway Bridge Bureau.
The bridge is the country's largest single under construction with a total length of 4,844 meters. It consists of a 598.8-meter main bridge, a 1,197.6-meter southern channel bridge, and a 3,047.6-meter northern channel bridge.
It employs a non-trestle construction method, with offshore construction accounting for 90 percent of the total workload.
The main section comprises a double-tower, three-span, double-cable-plane concrete cable-stayed bridge with the main tower standing 111.575 meters tall. Construction of the main tower was completed in 13 months. Another main tower is expected to complete construction in nine months.
As an important project under the Belt and Road Initiative, the bridge will become the longest in East Malaysia upon completion. It will significantly enhance the local transportation infrastructure and reshape the regional connectivity.
