Five Cambodian children suffering from congenital heart disease traveled to a cardiovascular hospital in south China’s Yunnan Province to receive free surgery on Monday.

Since 2018, Fuwai Yunnan Cardiovascular Hospital has been collaborating with the Cambodia-China Friendship Preah Kossamak Hospital in Phnom Penh through the Cambodia-China Love Heart Journey program, according to Chea Munyrith, a member of the Executive Committee of the Cambodia-China Friendship Association.

Over 79,000 children in Phnom Penh and other provinces have received check-ups, with 122 diagnosed with congenital heart disease.

So far, 107 Cambodian children with congenital heart disease have been sent to China for free surgery and successful recovery, while another 10 children have been treated and recovered in Cambodia.

The Cambodia-China Friendship Association plans to collaborate with Fuwai Yunnan Hospital and Kunming Yundi Behavioral and Health Research Center, among others, to deploy mobile surgical units from China to Cambodia to provide free surgeries for local children with congenital heart disease.
