Despite the cold weather now, water sports on the Yongjiang River in Nanning remain popular. Recently, a group of winter swimming enthusiasts attracted the attention of many city residents with their unique diving style near the ancient city wall along the north bank of the Yongjiang River.

At 10:30 a.m. on February 17th, near the ancient city wall on the north bank of the Yongjiang River, winter swimming enthusiasts were changing their clothes in preparation for diving. Among them, several “skilled craftsmen” had carefully set up a diving board made of bamboo planks on the railing next to the steps. The tail end of the diving board was securely fastened to the guardrail with sturdy ropes, and the surface was covered with a bright red carpet. A festive red lantern hung at the front end.

The diving activities of these winter swimming enthusiasts by the Yongjiang River in Nanning attracted many citizens to stop and watch. Peng Chunhai, Deputy Director of the Publicity Department of the Nanning Winter Swimming Association, said that diving involves certain risks, and injuries can easily occur for those who lack experience or adopt incorrect diving postures. “We just measured yesterday, and the current water temperature of the Yongjiang River is about 16.7°C. People who lack professional (diving) knowledge or experience in winter swimming should absolutely not imitate or participate in diving."
