According to a decision of the Thailand’s government, the country has cut electricity, fuel supply, and internet services to five areas in Myanmar along the Thai-Myanmar border starting from 9:00 a.m.on Wednesday.

Thailand approved electricity exports to villages of neighboring countries in 1996. Established in 1960, the Provincial Electricity Authority (PEA) supplies electricity for five locations along the Thailand-Myanmar border, including Myawaddy that sees rampant telecom fraud crimes.

Thai Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Interior Anutin Charnvirakul previously stated that in accordance with a cabinet resolution, the Ministry of Interior can coordinate with relevant departments to suspend cross-border utility services that may be exploited for illegal activities such as drug trafficking, money laundering, fraud, and human trafficking.
