A demonstration project for international cooperation in green and low-carbon development was signed between China’s Hainan Province and Singapore on Wednesday, boosting cooperation and exchanges between the two sides.
The project, jointly initiated by Hainan Holdings and Singapore-based CapitaLand Investment, commenced construction of its startup area in Haikou, the capital of Hainan, on the same day.
Located in Jiangdong New Area, it spans approximately 28.3 square kilometers and will be developed in three phases, covering an initial 600 hectares.
Leveraging the unique policy benefits of the Hainan Free Trade Port (FTP), the project aims to attract top-tier domestic and global enterprises to establish a "near-zero carbon" demonstration area integrating ports, industries, and urban development.
According to local authorities, Hainan is accelerating the development of a modern industrial system with local characteristics and advantages, aiming to establish the Hainan FTP as a key gateway for China’s opening-up in the new era.
The collaboration between Hainan and Singapore has gained momentum alongside the ongoing development of the Hainan FTP.
In January this year, Haikou Meilan International Airport and Singapore’s Changi Airport jointly established an airport commercial management company, marking the start of non-aviation business cooperation.
